TRC Final Report Released (Updated)
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Liberia (TRC) presented its final report containing findings, determinations and recommendations made by the Commission to the National Legislature. The report contains major findings on: the root causes of the conflict, the impact of the conflict on women, children and the generality of the Liberian society; responsibility for the massive commission of Gross Human Rights Violations (GHRV), and violations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL), International Human Rights Law (IHRL) as well as Egregious Domestic Law Violations (EDLV). www.trcofliberia.org

Lessons from Liberia: Reintegrating women in post-conflict Liberia
Thirty to forty percent of all fighting forces during Liberia’s 14 years of conflict were women and girls. Despite UN and government intentions for a gender-based approach to Disarmament, Demobilization Rehabilitation and Reintegration (DDRR), there was not enough high level political support to make sure that DDRR staff followed the UN’s Standards. Barriers such as fear of stigmatization need to be considered today as the country moves beyond the DDRR process and into community based reintegration programs that address all the needs in the community. read more (PDF)
